i feel as if this painting describes my life, there's the reds of despair but then there's the happiness of blue, the pointy jagged edges of the characature in the background describe the jagged edges tearing away at my soul

Dear Peter, thank you for your comment, we don't usually hold photography of works in their frames, but we do happen to have an image of this work in its frame. If you could get in touch with me via email graham.davies@museumwales.ac.uk then I can send you an image of the framed work.

My wife bought me a copy of San Giorgio Maggiore by Twilight and I want to frame it in a reasonable copy of the frame it is displayed in. Is there a picture of the picture and frame?

Just returned today from a trip to New York, including the The Met. where I had expected to see this painting - based of course on the movie, The Thomas Crown Affair, which is centered on the purported clever 'theft' of this painting from that gallery. I have a best friend in Venice, and have often seen the view Monet created. Although dissapointed in not yet seeing the painting, I now know where to find it and look forward to seeing it in Wales!!

Definately my favourite painting of all time. I used to be an employee of the National Museum and would spend many a rainy lunch hour sitting in the galleries enjoying the artwork, but I always ended up in front of this one. I love Monet's work, but this is his best in my opinion. The use of colours and it's overall brightness an energy always brings a smile to my face.
More recently, it has a lot more significance. Knowing this is my favourite painting, my girlfriend proposed to me in front of it. Of course, I said yes!!!

Stunning.
Will this be on display again? Or has it gone to Tokyo? I will make the trip especially to see it if it comes back.

This picture is actually owned and displayed at the Bridgestone Museum of Art, Tokyo, Japan. I know of this, as my partner saw it there as of 17.01.09

I was at an Art exhibition in Basel Switzerland featuring around 150 paintings on Venice.
I was amazed when I saw this masterpiece was owned by the National Museum in my hometown!
I have now found out Cardiff has quite an impressive collection of impressionist paintings.
Anyway, that should answer your question for you Sian. This painting will be in Basel Switzerland at Fondation Beyeler (www.beyeler.com) from the 28.11.2008 to the 25.01.2009.
Kind Regards
Tim
