Big Pit explores all aspects of mining, from strikes to disasters, from women in mining communities to the children forced to work underground in the nineteenth century.

• Travel 90 metres below ground with a former miner who'll give you a first-hand account of life down the pit
• Visit the engine house and stables above ground
• Learn about modern mining techiques in the mining galleries
• Investigate the pithead baths and the stories of the people who worked in the industry.

Underground tours run daily between 10 am - 3.30 pm.
Last bookable tour 3 pm.
Underground closed for maintenance during some dates in January.

We will send out a Planning Your Visit guide and a confirmation form when your booking has been made.
